During the past year, we have seen the twitter phenomenon make its way through households across the US. In today's society, we see people taking new forms of media to create differnet types of social environments on the web. With a twitter account, you can pretty much keep tabs on celebrities, athletes, musicians, etc. Never before have we had a way to explore into the lives of the people that we read about or see on tv. Over the past decade we've see virtual communities all over the internet, and people are joining these communities like never before. Celebrities aren't just celebrities anymore, but theyare becoming idols of worship. Through websites such as twitter, we see these virtual communities who are centered around celebrities. These communities are bringing together average individuals who share a common interest. We, as ordinary citizens, want to constantly check our twitter accounts to take a break from our own lives and step into the shoes of the people we only read about. We want to know what they're doing, so maybe we can just get a taste of the lavish lifestyle that we've only heard about. These virtual communities give us the opporunity to do so, and in this age of expansion of new media, nothing seems too far stretched for the imagination anymore.
